GET PREPARED FOR HURRICANE GUSTAV

Gulf Coast, MS August 27, 2008 – Get prepared for Hurricane Gustav! Get a kit; make a plan; be informed. The American Red Cross is encouraging people to ready themselves for an approaching possible landfall. Preparations include the following steps:
EVACUATION PLAN- Know where you’re going and how you’re going to get there. Communicate your plan to family members. Have a map.
TRANSPORTATION- Fill up your vehicle with gas. Make arrangements for transportation if you don’t have any.
MEDICATIONS- Make sure you have prescriptions filled and available.
HEALTH SUPPLIES- Pack your health supplies like contact lenses, eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures, asthma inhalers etc.
CASH- Have cash available.
CHILDREN- Make sure you have supplies for your kids like baby formula, diapers, games, etc.
NEIGHBORS- Check on your neighbors, especially if they are elderly or disabled.
PETS- Make arrangements for your pets to be safe.
DOCUMENTS- Gather your important documents like identification cards, insurance papers, birth certificates, property deeds, etc.
SHOPPING- one gallon water per person per day, non-perishable foods, flashlight, batteries
