Singing River Electric NHN grant purchases manikins for Red Cross

Oct 30, 2008

Singing River Electric Power Association recently awarded a Neighbors Helping Neighbors Community Grant totaling $2,500 to the Southeast Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Grant funds will be used to purchase 15 CPR manikins, specifically 10 toddlers and five babies, along with face shields so that the American Red Cross can offer CPR training to even more individuals.

“We are working steadily to improve the CPR/First Aid services we provide to Jackson and George counties,” said Paige Roberts, Executive Director of the Southeast Chapter of the American Red Cross. “The acquisition of these manikins for our Health and Safety Department will allow us to continue our efforts.”

The new manikins will not only be utilized in general CPR training but also with the babysitting course targeted at teenagers and recertification classes for those who want to keep their CPR skills current.

“Our outside employees must be CPR certified, so the need for manikins to conduct the training is something we understand,” said Singing River Electric general manager and CEO Lee Hedegaard. “Singing River Electric is pleased to help the American Red Cross continue this great service for the people of Jackson and George counties.”

An additional $2,500 grant was awarded to the Greene County School District to purchase three Mimio Interactive Wireless Modules to create interactive white boards for three of its schools.
